If this :http://www.pedigreequery.com/prince+spellbound
is the horse you are looking for, you can start your search at the Cali tracks ( looks like all his earnings came from Cali). He stood in Oklahoma and died in 2002, but it doesn’t give the name of the farm where he stood.

When I googled his name I found this:http://cgi.ebay.com/1984-Del-Mar-Media-Guide_W0QQitemZ140179714608QQcmdZViewItem

looks like a nice Del Mar program, but at $16 I don’t think so…LOL! Sorry I couldn’t find any pictures, but if any of the Cali tracks’s sites have an archive you might find one there.

admin answers:

It is simple maths my friend,
you have to be carefull because in britain the odds differ in certain races,,
here goes.. If you place a £1 e/w bet on a horse that wins at 9/1 you would get £10 back for the win part of your bet,, the place part of your bet is more complicated,, if there was less than 8 runners in the race you would get one quarter of the odds aplace ie 9 to 4 aplace =£3.25.
If there is more than 7 and its a non handicap race you would get one fifth a place ie 9 to 5 a place =2.80.
If you bet on a handicap with more than 15 runners you get one quarter aplace for the first four places.
If you bet each way and there is less than 5 runners all your cash goes on to win,,ie £1 e/w at 5 to one in a four horse race would actually be settled as a £2 win at 5/1 and the return would be £12.0
if you are betting an e/w treble and the odds are 6/1.. 8/1..and 12/1 and they are all handicaps at 1/4 the odds you would get back £936 for the win part of the treble and £30 pound for the place ie 6/4+2/1+3/1=36pound

good luck and i hope this has helped

what were the lowest horse racing odds ever when?

admin answers:

The lowest possible odds on a horse is 1-20. That means you get back $.05 for every $1 that you bet. That’s the lowest the track is ever allowed to pay out. The lowest bet that you can make is $2. The lowest payout on a horse race is $2.10. That limit is imposed by the racetrack and there are some tracks where the lowest payout is $2.20 rather than $2.10, but the $2.10 payout is by far the most common limit.

As for what horses have ever caused that low of a payout, I believe that Ruffian was 1-20 in some of her races.

Is it not time for a REAL racing daily ?

I am first of all fed up with the monopoly of the Racing Post at a truly exorbitant price which contains about 40% of non racing trash ! They got their prominence by undercutting the far superior publication, the Sporting Life. They saw off a half hearted underfunded publication a short while ago (so good can’t remember the name and it was difficult to read and altogether a mess)
The paper gives different information to that put up on bookies walls, so any system follower could not rely on information taken from one or the other-even give different forecast prices sometimes.
Is it not time someone came out with a daily publication that concentrated on good, accurate horse and dog racing information, mainly confined to the UK at a reasonable price?
My point is 1. You only get the bare bones of form which are not always accurate.
2. You wouldn’t but the Christian Herald and expect to see sections on Hinduism and paganism.
3. Like Mysilv I take no notice of their tips and stories as I feel most are like Ravii Tickoo or whatever his name is – knows nothing.

admin answers:

To be honest I’d rather not have any more racing rags on the market telling people what horses to back, it’s all a game of luck and chance anyway and if you can’t be at the races and actually see the horses you are on to a loser already.

The internet is the best source of up to date information available, just watching the betting gives you an idea of whether your horse is going to win or lose (not always as in the case of Firebet last week but trainers TV interview had a lot to do with that).

When I go racing I always check through the Racing Post to see how accurate their tips for the day, Pricewise etc have been and usually they score extremely low and have given bad and off-putting advice. In betting shops I only use it as a guide to the colours my horse is carrying.

Somehow you have to get inside the head of the trainer and why he is running a particular horse in a particular race, then you need to see that horse and how he/she has turned out….. But betting shops don’t provide paddock inspection for the jolly old punter they are too busy with the business end of the dogs, the horses and the virtual racing.

If I had to make a suggestion it would be to have a subsidiary channel of Racing UK or ATR screened in betting shops where they concentrate on the main meeting and punters have the choice to watch every race at that meeting from paddock, to horses going down to the race itself. They always go to great depths after the race to see how a horse has run, why not devote more time to how a horse is behaving before the race….then we may have a chance to beat the bookie…I really don’t think another racing paper is the answer..Jac x

The secret to punting big priced winners in the handicap races

You just need a little ‘patience and a notebook can be used as a professional horse racing strategy to bag big price winners in Handicap races, which will keep you in front of the bookmakers.

If you are a regular gambler you most likely see the horse racing at the track or at home on television. How many times have you been watching the end of a race and said, “Oh, old so an so finished very strongly, it seems he’s ready to win a race very soon I will bet on it next time.

But next time, it is then entered a big handicap race, the horse does not handle the better class of horses and doesn’t win. At this stage, we forget everything about that horse and continue our never-ending search for the winners, never imagining we have probably eliminated all we need to get winners. Let me explain …

Horses cannot, no matter what class of animal they are, be fit 100% of the time; this is especially the case when they are frequently running in Handicap Company. So when you see a horse running on strongly at the finish it is as you correctly assume a good indication that he is running into form and is worth keeping a very close eye on. But we must do this for more than just its next race!

Remember the “anything can happen a horse race, no matter how well the animal is readied for the race that horse can be badly drawn, it can be going for a gap when it closes and effectively ends it’s challenge, the jockey can simply fall off! Anything can, and frequently does happen to prevent a well-prepared horse from winning its target race.

If, however, continue to monitor the horse for a limited time, of course, the horse eventually wins and you get well rewarded for your faith

It is also worth mentioning that from time to time, a seriously hampered horse somehow manages to make their way through the slot. So keep your eyes open when you look at the handicap races and if you see a horse to finish strongly, put a note of it on your laptop, follow him and support him in every way, only his next three races.

It’s almost certain you will at least recover your stake if the horse only manage a place, but it will have a chance to win one of three races, and at an attractive price, which show a good overall healthy profit.

Here are the full handicap system rules-
Remember to mark all the horses you see improving in handicap races. After consideration back to them each-way for the next three races, but do not forget to stop when you win a race. Do not stop at a place only stop at a win.

You have to remember that these horses are ready to conquer a specific target or to land a game pre-programmed gamble, and if all goes according to plan, and manage to win the first or second time out then it is likely that it will be eased off until preparations are ready for them to go and try to win the next race target. This is the great secret to nailing big priced winners in the handicap races.

There has been horse racing of sorts for many many years. Horse racing began in Assyria in c.1500 bc and Chariot Racing was a popular event in Roman Times. It was in fact the Romans who are thought to have ran the first horse race in the UK, however the first actual recorded event of a meeting was in 1174, this took place at a horse fair in the north-west part of London called Smithfield.

Royal Connections

The Royal Family are behind many of the historic developments that changed and shaped horse racing over the years, with Henry II importing horses specifically for breeding and Charles II being the first to introduce a set of rules in 1664 (for the Newmarket Town Plate). It was in 1752 the Jockey Club formed and penned The Rules of Racing.

First horse races

The Derby is the oldest flat race having begun in 1780 at the Earl of Derby’s estate in Epsom, it was run on a sweepstakes basis and is still of course being run every year now, as is the Grand National which was first run in 1856, however the first recorded national hunt (as we know it now) race was in Cork, Ireland in 1752, it was a 4 miles 5 furlongs contest between two church steeples and that is the reason the term ‘steeplechase’ was coined.

Purpose and types of horse racing

The purpose of a horse race is to determine the fastest of two or more horses over a specific distance with the first horse to cross the winning line being the winner.

Horse Racing Categories – Flat

In the UK and Ireland there are three variations of race categories. The first is Flat Racing, where horses run over a distance between 5 furlongs and 2 miles 6 furlongs on turf. The flat season starts in March and runs through to November with varying quality of races with Group 1 contests being the highest. The youngest horses competing on the flat are 2 years old.

Horse Racing Categories – All Weather

All Weather Racing is the second race category and is similar to flat racing other than contests take place on an artifical surface, which can be used all year round (hence the name All Weather). Many of the All Weather horse racing tracks also have floodlit tracks meaning they can offer night racing.

Horse Racing Categories – National Hunt

The third category is National Hunt where horses compete on turf over longer distances ranging from 1 mile 6 furlongs (very minimal number of junior bumper races) and 4 miles 4 furlongs. Within National Hunt there are further classification types, these are Bumpers (also known as National Hunt Flat races) where there are no obstacles and are aimed at giving horses the experience of competing on a race track, Chases where the competitors must clear fences and Hurdles where they must jump hurdles. This means for example that you can have a handicap chase or a maiden hurdle etc. The difference between a fence and a hurdle is quite significant with a fence being sturdier and higher. A hurdle race will only contain hurdles whereas a chase can contain a variety of obstacles including water jumps and ditches as well as fences.

Horse Racing Classification

Within each category of racing there are different types of contests dependent on a horse’s experience and ability. Generally races are categorised by an age group (for example 4 year olds+) and/or an official rating bracket (a score given to each horse by the handicapper based on its performance to date). Maiden races are for horses who have not yet won a race. Handicaps are when a horse is weighted dependent on its past ability – in an ideal world, a handicap should result in all horses crossing the finish line at the same time. Nursery races are handicap races on the flat/all weather for two year old horses. Non handicaps are when all horses carry the same weight (although this figure can be adjusted based on penalties applied as set out in the race terms – for example the rules may state that all horses will carry 9 stone but that an additional weight of 3 pounds will be applied to horses who have won in the last 6 weeks).

A horse race form is a program containing factors about a horse race. It generally lists the scheduled races, the names of the horses, and other important race information. A horse race card helps bettors make an educated betting choice.
The following text gives an overview to the terms and lingo in horse racing and betting.
‘Time’ is the race’s starting time.

The ‘purse’ is the prize money that is split mainly between the owner, trainer and jockey. Prize money is also spread, on a sliding scale, to those finishing in the first few places.
Flat races are usually run at distances from 5 to 12 furlongs. A furlong is one eighth of a mile or 0.2 km.
The ‘Program Number’ is the race number.

‘Morning Line Odds’ are the horse’s odds at the start of the day. This changes as the day progresses and more bets are placed.
‘Saddle Cloth’ Colour is included to help spectators and bettors identify their horses from a distance.
‘Post Position’ is the position assigned to the horse in the starting gate.
Owners often use a name that stands out and is easily recalled by bettors, called a ‘Horse Name’ This is done since the horse’s name is often used by many newcomer bettors to help choose their bet.
The main horse colours are bay, chestnut, black, brown, white, grey, pinto, buckskin, dun, and roan.
Sex- Contains an abbreviation of the horse’s sex.
? c – colt
? f- filly
? h -thoroughbred aged 5 or older
? gelding
Regarding a horse’s age, January 1 is counted as their birth date. Different horses mature at different ages. Most horses reach mental maturity at around seven or eight years old, when their behaviour generally becomes calmer and more accepting.
The Sire and Dam are the names of the horse’s parents. The dam’s sire is often included. This data is useful for bettors to ascertain possible horse performance through ancestry.
The Breeder is the person who handled the horse’s upbringing.
Regarding weight, the amount of weight, including the jockey, which the horse will carry, is listed. Many jockeys are on strict diets so they can ‘make the weight’ for their rides.
The Claiming Price is the price at which the horse is available for sale to a qualified buyer. As not all horses are competitors in stakes level races, racing in the claiming ranks gives the opportunity to race against horses of similar calibre. Thus, for example, when a horse easily wins against ?5,000 claimers, he may be moved up in value to avoid his being claimed. More prominent tracks would generally feature horses of higher value. Claiming Prices vary from ?5,000 to ?150,000 depending on the track.
The ‘trainer’ is responsible for getting the horse in perfect shape for race day.
The ‘owner’ pays for a horse’s training, and is keen to receive a return on his investments.
The ‘jockey/rider’ has a massive part to play in a race. His ability to guide the horse in the race often spells the difference between winning and losing. The rider’s silks differentiate one mount from another, and are crucial to bettors who want to distinguish which horse they have backed. The variations can include spots, hoops, stars and stripes. A more recent innovation is the use of a sponsors’ logo.
The ‘summary of results’ section includes a breakdown of the horse’s racing results during the current year, during his lifetime, under wet track conditions, on the same distance and on the same track. It also lists the horse’s previous earnings.
It also contains the horse class rating which is a mark that is based on the horse’s speed in previous races, with emphasis placed on recent performance and races run at today’s distance. It’s usually a number between 50.0 and 100.0.

You might not know it, but you can increase your profits if you put your money on the horse that has the greatest odds of losing a race. Professional punters dub this as “lay betting”. Read more to learn more about this completely reverse form of horse handicapping.

Think In Reverse

When your horse racing tips say that you will not profit on the odds-on favorite, you may want to bet on the horse that is likely to lose the race. This is a complete turn-around because now, you will be handicapping for the worst horses! Your predictions will now be based on a horse’s worst performance, figures, and stats. Also, you will be looking for that particular horse which tends to run poorly on certain weather conditions and on particular race tracks. Instead of putting your money on the youngest, healthiest, and fastest horse, you will be betting on the oldest and slowest horse among the herd.

Evaluate Race Results

Whether you are handicapping for the likely winner or loser in a horse race, you have to study horse racing forms. You can find these horse racing forms in the race tracks, in newsstands, or on the Internet. On these racing forms are past figures and stats which aids your handicaps. Remember, because you’re lay betting, you will be looking for the slowest among all the horses.

Tell-tale Odds

If you are getting your horse racing tips online, you must be using a system where you can find odds which represent how the horses will likely fare in a particular race. Odds are calculated numbers which yield the probability of a horse’s victory or loss in a particular race. And because you are lay betting, you should look for the horse with the highest odds of losing. Bet on the horse with the million-to-one shot to raise your profits!

Do Not Wish For A Miracle

With your horse racing tips, you already have your money on the horse with the greatest odds of losing. Then a strange thing happened. Instead of losing, your horse won! As a result, you lost more cash than you should have. Other times, the odds-on favorite to finish first loses the race. These strange things happen all the time. That is why you can never really discount the capability of these horses, nor can you never really put too much faith on the horse racing tips that you get.
