Alana asks…

Does anybody know the name of the artist or the strip?

Many years ago, maybe even over 20 years ago, there appeared in the Sun Newspaper(UK) in the Racing section,a Cartoon strip that gave advice and information on Horse racing. What to look out for in a horse in the paddock, handicapping, running styles, etc. There were two characters in the strip and one of them was telling all they knew to the other it was stylishly illustrated.

Mandy asks…

Is it not time for a REAL racing daily ?

I am first of all fed up with the monopoly of the Racing Post at a truly exorbitant price which contains about 40% of non racing trash ! They got their prominence by undercutting the far superior publication, the Sporting Life. They saw off a half hearted underfunded publication a short while ago (so good can’t remember the name and it was difficult to read and altogether a mess)
The paper gives different information to that put up on bookies walls, so any system follower could not rely on information taken from one or the other-even give different forecast prices sometimes.
Is it not time someone came out with a daily publication that concentrated on good, accurate horse and dog racing information, mainly confined to the UK at a reasonable price?
My point is 1. You only get the bare bones of form which are not always accurate.
2. You wouldn’t but the Christian Herald and expect to see sections on Hinduism and paganism.
3. Like Mysilv I take no notice of their tips and stories as I feel most are like Ravii Tickoo or whatever his name is – knows nothing.

To be honest I’d rather not have any more racing rags on the market telling people what horses to back, it’s all a game of luck and chance anyway and if you can’t be at the races and actually see the horses you are on to a loser already.

The internet is the best source of up to date information available, just watching the betting gives you an idea of whether your horse is going to win or lose (not always as in the case of Firebet last week but trainers TV interview had a lot to do with that).

When I go racing I always check through the Racing Post to see how accurate their tips for the day, Pricewise etc have been and usually they score extremely low and have given bad and off-putting advice. In betting shops I only use it as a guide to the colours my horse is carrying.

Somehow you have to get inside the head of the trainer and why he is running a particular horse in a particular race, then you need to see that horse and how he/she has turned out….. But betting shops don’t provide paddock inspection for the jolly old punter they are too busy with the business end of the dogs, the horses and the virtual racing.

If I had to make a suggestion it would be to have a subsidiary channel of Racing UK or ATR screened in betting shops where they concentrate on the main meeting and punters have the choice to watch every race at that meeting from paddock, to horses going down to the race itself. They always go to great depths after the race to see how a horse has run, why not devote more time to how a horse is behaving before the race….then we may have a chance to beat the bookie…I really don’t think another racing paper is the answer..Jac x

Lynn asks…

tip for horse race betting

i am a horse racing gambler in Mauritius and races are very often fixed among rich punters, stable owners and jockeys. It seems that people from UK, South Africa and Australia get information about which horse will win and poor Mauritians continue to loose money every week. I am looking for reliable tips from anyone from abroad.

I’d consider a switch to North American racing. Sure, some races at a few junker tracks are fixed like a housecat, but it’s not outright shenanigans wherever you turn either.

Jemima asks…

Can anybody give me any history about my horse Autumn Sun who was a harness racer until around 1991?

Autumn Sun is now 21 years old. He harness raced in the UK until he was around 14 years old. I have a photograph of him winning at Appleby but any other information or photographs would be fantastic if anyone can tell me anything.
I have to correct my question, I said my horse harness raced until around 1991, this is an error. He would have been harness racing in 1991 onward for around 12 years as far as i know.
